We have decided not to use the rating star anymore. Many of the website we select are for a particular interest, rating them is not a valid measure for quality of content.

We are experiencing frequent down times from the webhost we are currently using. We are still testing the plantsearcher features so this down issue is annoying as we are continuesly logged in.
Anybody got a good idea?
Help keeping the PlantSearcher.com online.

plantsearcher
The plantsearcher.com is run solely by volunteer webmasters, and we all have our web-master idea’s. Implementing all our idea’s would take a very long time before ready, and for this reason (I guess) the website will always be under construction.
We just got started.
We already received many good idea’s and lots of URL’s to check out. We expect to continue to update the website until the end of this month and continue updating from next year immediately again. Then we will begin the real promotion and hopefully get enough votes to make the thing work the way we want.
Please keep voting, and keep sending in new links! Don’t worry, the website will always be under construction.

The original idea was to build a new state of the art plant catalogue with the possibility of scientific collaboration… (Yeah right!)
So to most logical think would be to utilize Open Source software and find a group of volunteers. (Good luck!) Idea’s mingled and the interests in building something huge. After a couple of months when all hope seemed lost, the PlantSearcher.com suddenly appeared. The idea of a plantsearcher didn’t exist before, it was merely the good cooking of a friend, some fine ingredients and a lot of lazy critters that wander the net.
Bringer of hope
After we spread the word on October 7th 2009, we have about 100 visitors per day. We are really honoured to have those visitors on our site. For all the folk that really like plants, the PlantSearcher.com should be able to find you all the plants in the world.
There is more where that came from…

When I read through texts, identifying indexable concepts for botanical interest, I came to the opinion that the internet is a wild chaos. Were do you we start when we want to surf the botanical part of the internet?
The Past
I did find lists with hundreds of links to websites about plants, but hardly any still worked. The problem with most link lists on websites is that they are static links. This means that if a link to a website changes, you are out of luck.
The Present
Luckily the internet has changed a lot! Not only do we now have dynamic link lists (this is the opposite of static links), also most of the elderly I know are actually surfing the net like maniacs and that is what I call: Flabbergasted. Anyway, we love plants and botanical gardens, so we want to have easy websites navigating us to the best places.
For this purpose we created a non-profit website that will start evaluating and monitoring botanical websites and tells you the best places to go. We just started so take a look of what is becoming the PlantSearcher.com
The future
The future holds no borders for those with the imagination to wield it! We have just started collecting lists of plants, and it is quite some work evaluating them. We hope many visitors will help out by submitting a link to their favourite plant website or post comments on our selection of websites. With your help we can build the PlantSearcher.com
